BILINGUAL WORKSHOPS:
Weekly workshops (in French and in English) include a series of techniques and tips about everything that concerns a jazz vocalist and the participants learn and master them along the way. At the end of a session, they do a concert with a jazz band.
Topics covered:
INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED:
Starts: Tuesdays, from 7 to 9:30 p.m.
Where: Alcorn Music Studios, 953 Gladstone Ave, Ottawa
This workshop is the right choice for singers who already have some experience singing jazz, who, for example, went to Jazzworks or Carleton University jazz camps or already sang in a jazz concert. It can also be appropriate for an artist who has experience in other styles.
This session, we will particularly go over the preparation of a concert, featuring the production aspect as well as the artistic aspect, while working on the jazz interpretation.
BEGINNER:
Starts: Wednesdays, from 7 to 9:30 p.m.
Where: Espace of L'Avant-première (432 Alexandre Taché Blvd, Gatineau)
This workshop is for you if:
WEEKEND WORKSHOP: (14 hours on two days)
(Minimum six participants)
This workshop is for singers or musicians who are interested in discovering how jazz can enrich their musical experience. Learn to sing a jazz song like a pro and really know what you're doing. Learn how to speak the same language as jazz musicians, how to count them in and how to lead them.

What’s a jazz standard – structure of a standard – intros & endings - where does jazz come from - the characteristics of jazz, etc...
We will do some listening and some singing too!
This workshop is for:
Beginner jazz singers or intermediate
Jazz camp participants or who want to prepare for jazz camp
Experienced singers who want an introduction to jazz
Non singers who wants to know more about it to better enjoy listening to it.
2. How to work with musicians – What they expect of a jazz vocalist
Learn how to communicate, how count the tunes, how to conduct, etc.
3. Stage presence and posture – How to own the stage
Techniques and exercises to improve your presence.
4. Interpretation – How to get your message to the audience
Techniques to help you adding emotional texture in your songs and be authentic.
5. Dealing with the keys and transposition when you’re not a musician
Simple tools and tips for non-musicians in the context of jazz

- you have never song before but you have a good ear and rhythm and would like to discover your voice while demystifying jazz
- you already sing (e.g.: choir) but would like to explore a new style
- you were in this workshop before but are a little rusty
- you are an experienced singer but would like to broaden your horizons by discovering jazz.
